One thing almost no guide mentions: no leather items inside the complex. Not just footwear — belts, wallets, leather-strap bags, everything. Remove them at your vehicle or accommodation, not at the gate when the queue is already behind you.

Chandrabhaga Snan — The River Before the Temple (चंद्रभागा नदी स्नान)

Every pilgrim who has done the Wari knows the order: Chandrabhaga first, then Vitthal.

Pilgrims take a bath in the Chandrabhaga River (चंद्रभागा नदी स्नान) — called the Bhima here — at the Chakra Tirth Ghat before entering the temple. Chakra Tirth Ghat is 5 minutes’ walk from the temple gate.

Ghat timings: Open from early morning (before 4:00 AM) through evening. The 4:00–6:00 AM window before Kakad Aarti is when Varkaris traditionally take the snan. On Ekadashi, the ghat fills wall to wall — tens of lakhs, all in at the same time. Nothing else in Maharashtra looks quite like it.

Soap and shampoo are not allowed in the river. Changing rooms are on both sides of the ghat. Bring dry clothes — wet ones at the temple entrance will get you turned away.

The Pandharpur Wari — What Actually Happens

The Wari is not a procession. It is millions of ordinary people — farmers, teachers, shopkeepers — walking 250 km barefoot through Maharashtra’s summer heat, singing abhangas that their grandparents sang, carrying the Padukas (sacred footwear) of saints who lived seven centuries ago.

Two main palkhis lead the way: Sant Dnyaneshwar’s from Alandi near Pune, and Sant Tukaram’s from Dehu. They walk 18 to 21 days, gathering smaller palkhis along the route. Villages feed them. The final arrival at Pandharpur on Ashadhi Ekadashi is an ocean of white-clad Varkaris, bells, cymbals, and one chant: Jai Hari Vitthal.

Ashadhi Wari 2026: June 19 – July 7, 2026. This has now passed. Kartiki Wari (November 2026) is next — confirm exact date on vitthalrukminimandir.org or a local panchang.

⚠️ Official Warning from Shri Vitthal Rukmini Trust (2026): Fake websites are posing as the official portal and collecting donations. Fraudulent Google Maps listings are also showing wrong contact numbers. vitthalrukminimandir.org is the ONLY official website for darshan booking, room booking, and donations. Do not pay on any other site.

Pandharpur Temple Darshan Types — Charan Sparsh vs Mukh Darshan

The two queues are different experiences — worth understanding before you arrive.

Charan Sparsh Darshan is the complete darshan — devotees enter the sanctum, bow at Lord Vitthal’s feet, and touch the charans (feet). This is what most Varkaris come for. The queue is longer, but the experience is the one that gives Pandharpur its meaning.

Mukh Darshan is a faster, separate queue — devotees see the deity from a distance, without approaching the charans. Elderly devotees, families with small children, or anyone short on time — Mukh Darshan is the practical choice.

On Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi, queue arrangements shift based on that year’s crowd management decisions — Charan Sparsh may be restricted or the darshan order altered. Charan Sparsh on a regular Shravan weekday — quieter, more accessible, less uncertain than Ekadashi.

E-Pass darshan skips the general queue. Shorter wait, closer to the sanctum.

Vitthal Rukmini Mandir Timings & Aarti Schedule 2026 (विठ्ठल आरती वेळ)

Ritual / Darshan Timing
Kakad Aarti & Nitya Pooja 4:30 AM – 5:30 AM
Morning Darshan Opens 6:00 AM
Mahanaivedya (Noon Bhog) 10:45 AM – 11:00 AM
Afternoon Darshan Resumes 11:15 AM
Poshakh (Dress Change) 4:40 PM – 5:00 PM
Dhoop Aarti 6:45 PM – 7:00 PM
Evening Darshan Continues till 11:15 PM
Shej Aarti (Closing) 12:00 AM – 1:00 AM

The Kakad Aarti begins at 4:30 AM — the most intimate ritual of the day — Vitthal is woken with song. Devotees who arrive at 4:00 AM and wait at the gate experience a Pandharpur that the afternoon rush never shows. If you have accommodation in Pandharpur and can manage the early wake-up, this is the visit.

The Mahanaivedya break (11:00–11:30 AM) briefly pauses darshan. Plan around it.

Ashadhi (July 25) is done for 2026. Kartiki Ekadashi is next, somewhere in November — lunar calendar moves it around each year. Confirm the date on vitthalrukminimandir.org closer to the time. Kartiki Ekadashi is the second-biggest Wari event — the same massive convergence of Varkaris, same rush, same scale. Two Palkhis (Sant Tukaram’s from Dehu, Sant Dnyaneshwar’s from Alandi) arrive after walking hundreds of kilometres. The town becomes the largest gathering in Maharashtra.

Vitthal Rukmini Online Darshan Booking — E-Pass Guide (विठ्ठल रुक्मिणी ई-पास बुकिंग)

Official portal: vitthalrukminimandir.org

vitthalrukminimandir.org is the only legitimate booking portal. No agent or third-party site has authorisation to issue E-Pass tickets.

Log in with your mobile number, OTP verify karein, enter devotee names, ages, and Aadhaar numbers, then pick date and time slot. Pay by UPI or card, download the pass. Print it — phone signal near the ghats before 4 AM is not something to rely on.

Important: The E-Pass gives you a specific time slot entry. Arriving outside your slot time can mean re-queuing at the general line. Reach the E-Pass gate 15–20 minutes before your slot.

Kartiki Ekadashi E-Pass slots open on a specific date announced on vitthalrukminimandir.org — book that same day. They don’t last long. These dates see millions of Varkaris in the town; E-Pass slots disappear within hours.

Senior citizens and differently-abled: Senior citizens and differently-abled devotees generally get a separate counter — but what’s available on the day depends on crowd management that day. Worth calling 02186-228888 before the trip to ask what’s in place, rather than assuming at the gate.

For Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi, senior citizen queues also get crowded — arriving before 6:00 AM significantly reduces the wait even for this priority category.

Women with young children and differently-abled devotees also get dedicated entry lanes — ask at the temple counter on arrival.

Vitthal Rukmini Live Darshan — YouTube & TV

विठ्ठल रुक्मिणी लाईव्ह दर्शन आज घरबसल्या पाहता येते — for devotees who cannot travel, live darshan is available on the official YouTube channel. Search “Vitthal Rukmini Mandir Live Darshan” on YouTube — the temple’s verified channel streams daily darshan including Aarti.

Television channels including Zee Marathi and DD Sahyadri carry live darshan during Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi — check local TV channel listings.

Pandharpur VIP pass price: The E-Pass at vitthalrukminimandir.org is free to book. General darshan queues are free. Paid ‘VIP pass’ arrangements are not part of the standard temple system — treat any site charging for one with caution and verify with the temple directly. Check local listings closer to the festival dates.

vitthalrukminimandir.org also streams live darshan during major festivals.

Pandharpur Bhakta Niwas — Room Booking & Contact

Shri the temple trust runs the the Bhakta Niwas — accommodation within or near the temple premises for devotees. Dormitory beds and private AC/non-AC rooms both available. Book at vitthalrukminimandir.org or call direct: 02186-228888 / 02186-223111 / 02186-222111 / 02186-295969.

Book well ahead for Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi — Bhakta Niwas fills months in advance for both festivals. Alternative accommodation: MTDC (Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation) has a resort in Pandharpur — book at mtdcindia.com. Private lodges near the temple and near Pandharpur railway station are widely available.

Pandharpur railway station to Vitthal temple auto fare: approximately ₹30–₹60 for a shared auto, ₹100–₹150 for a private auto (2 km distance). On Ekadashi, the road near the temple is closed to vehicles — be prepared to walk the last 500m–1 km.

How to Reach Pandharpur

Solapur is the easiest entry point — 70 km, under two hours by road or train. From Pune it is about 225 km on NH-65, four hours. Mumbai is six to seven. MSRTC covers both Solapur and Pune well, and Pandharpur station is 2 km from the temple gate. Indian Railways puts out extra trains before Ashadhi and Kartiki Ekadashi — they fill up weeks in advance, so booking on IRCTC around 60 days before is not overcaution.

One thing worth knowing for Ekadashi: the roads near the temple close to vehicles on peak days. The last stretch is on foot regardless of how you arrive — factor in 20–30 minutes of walking from wherever you park or get dropped.
