The Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple, popularly known as Rameshwaram Temple, is one of the holiest Hindu shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located on Rameswaram Island in Tamil Nadu, it holds great importance in the Char Dham Yatra and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of India.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Rama installed the Shiva Lingam here and worshipped it before crossing the ocean to Lanka. This temple is also one of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, glorified in the hymns of the Nayanmars (Appar, Sundarar, and Sambandar).
